Quick cheap customization of Locomotives.
Hello again. Here is a quick money saving tip for you. How many of us have purchased a nice locomotive only to see that there are casted in details such as MU hoses and air hoses? Not to mention it is the same color as the loco's sill?? I for one hate that. So here is a cheap easy trick to rememdy that as well as bring some added detail to your locomotive.
First you will want to remove the plows if there are any on the unit. Most Atlas and Katos just pop off and on with out a problem. Then get yourself some flat black paint. (you can mix some grey in with it to make it a sunwashed black if your feeling froggy). Then using a toothpick, very lightly get some paint on the tip of the tooth pic. Then roll it over your hoses ever so gently. You may need to apply a couple coats to cover completely. Then take some grey or chromeish color and hit the tip ever so gingerly to paint in the connections. Let dry and then finally reatatch the plows. Quick Easy and cheap. And if you accidently get some someplace you dont want have a wet q-tip ready to dab off the paint. I would recomend using floquil or badger paints, because they seem to work the best. Its water based paint so clean up is a snap!
